A stag weekend fit for a king

He may not be King of this land yet, but we expect Prince William will have a stag weekend that is fit for one.

Prince William is to marry Kate Middleton in April 2011 in a wedding of such scale that has not been seen for a generation, but before he can enter a life of married bliss he must celebrate like everyone else.

His younger brother, Prince Harry, will ensure he has a messy evening to remember, or possibly forget, while there has been talk of Will enjoying three stag nights, which is a little greedy of course!

When money is no object what do you do on a stag weekend other than drink copious amounts of alcohol before having your minders worry about getting you home or into a luxury hotel so you can sleep it off.

Also, given that Prince William is used to flying around Chinook helicopters it is not really going to thrill him doing some typically hair raising activities, while paintballing is probably a silly version of an afternoon at Balmoral for the royals.

We shall watch with interest at what Prince William gets up to on his UK stag weekend, as he can hardly live it up somewhere else can he!

Stags with no shame is a myth, says survey

The reputation of English stag groups as being lads with no shame is a myth, according to stag do organisers DesignaVenture.

DesignaVenture surveyed over 120 stags in confidence asking them a range of questions about naughty goings-on on their stag-do and the responses left little to write home about.

Only one groom did the dirty and snogged a bride-to-be from another hen party, while all others were good boys and tucked up in their own beds without doing anything to regret on the morning after the night before.

A DesignaVenture spokesman said, “We kind of thought most stag parties go on their weekend have a go on the activities and then celebrate with the groom. This survey also confirms our thoughts that most stag parties happen without incident and that the guys have a great weekend without the use of the phrase ‘what goes on tour, stays on tour’ (WGOTSOT)”.

Russell Brand stays sober on his stag do

After all the talking funny man Russell Brand’s stag do finally took place and he stood by his word and stayed sober throughout.

The former wild man of UK comedy is due to marry Katy Perry, who has got him on the straight and narrow, although he still managed to spend £7,000 on his stag do.

Crazy hair but calm stag do

Brand’s day started with a spot of football with Jonathan Ross and David Walliams joining him to see his Hammers side beat local rivals Tottenham. There was more celebs for the evening entertainment as Noel Gallagher, David Baddiel and Carl Barat were among a group of 22 to have dinner at Gordon Ramsay’s plush York & Albany restaurant in Camden.

The meal was a sober affair with no crazy behaviour to speak of, although the lads did go on to table dancing club Angels, where Peter Stringfellow introduced an element of stag night fun to the proceedings.

Top 10 Stag Destinations

According to The Times:

Grooms-to-be are spending nearly £200 a head on lengthy stag parties abroad, despite the financial gloom, while their brides-to-be are cutting back.

According to research released today, 74 per cent of men hold pre-wedding celebrations lasting more than one day, and 32 per cent hold them abroad.

The figures from Hotels.com and Wedding Ideas magazine found that stag parties spread over a weekend or longer and cost participants £179 each, while two thirds of hen parties now last just one day, costing £118 a head.

The most popular destinations for the men are in Europe, with Prague, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Tallinn the most visited by British stags, although London was still number one.

By contrast, 96 per cent of brides plan to celebrate in the UK, with 28 per cent sticking to their home towns.

Jo Smith, a solicitor from London is getting married in December, with a hen party planned for her home town of Liverpool, while her husband-to-be is holding a three-day stag party in Kiev.

“It would never have crossed my mind to go abroad because some of my closest friends couldn’t afford it and I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as I would be worried about how much they were spending,” she said.

“I think, in general, blokes don’t worry about money as much as girls and are a lot happier spending what they don’t have.”

The most popular hen destinations are London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Devon, Cornwall and Bath, with Barcelona the only foreign city in the top ten.

Rachel Moschke, editor of Wedding Ideas said: “… brides are becoming increasingly conscious of what they ask their friends and family to pay for. The hen do is one area where brides feel like they need to keep their eye on the budget and are celebrating in the UK so there is more in the kitty for their big day.”
